FT and Smaller Muscles

Love this quote:

“Large muscles of the body are designed for movement. Pain comes from smaller muscles absorbing too much force when the larger ones are used improperly” -Dr.Goodman @foundationtraining

FOUNDATION TRAINING zeros in on the deep spinal muscle…the diaphragm, the transverse abdomen, the erectors to name a few. Practice FT and these muscles will be better able to do their job which is to stabilize and support our body thru all types of movement.

Practicing Foundation Training is the key to a stronger more resilient spine, core and overall better movement.

Breathe big and wide, be tall and move well.

Let’s go conquer Tuesday!

INTRODUCING FOUNDATION TRAINING’S: CORE ELEMENTS

FOUNDATION TRAINING has completely changed the way I look at fitness and the body in general.                                                           FOUNDATION TRAINING had given me tools to manage my chronic back pain as well as being able to help others.

I still apply FT principals and exercise every single day.

In my earlier years of competitive sports, training and personal training I viewed the body’s  health and appearance from the outside.  Good bodyweight, muscle tone and nice athletic moves are all great, but now I know…a truly fit and healthy body happens from inside the body.

Humans are the only bodies on the plant that move upright on two legs.  This puts our body in a compressed state as soon as we start standing and walking.  We battle against gravity all our lives…gravity wins in many many cases.  Factor in injuries, repetitive patterns, technology and just plain bad habits such as poor diets, to much sitting and emotional trauma our spines and muscular pulley sysmtoms succumb to all this trauma.  I, myself fell into this category of people.  Even though, I have always had a good weight, good athletic skills and exercised all my life…the chronic back pain became debilitating…coming more frequently and lasting longer and longer.  The “back episodes” affected me at work and at play.

Enter FOUNDATION TRAINING!  My wonderful chiropractor at Foxworth Chiropractic showed me the original FT book.  I took a look at it and decided to try a few exercises.  The exercises looked simple enough (they are simple) but, I knew immediately something was different.  I felt better after the first time!  I kept doing them…I kept feeling better and better!  Weeks went by, months went by and I was feeling great and no back pain.  I told Dr Cefalu (my chiro) I keep waiting for this to quit working…for the pain to be back.  It’s been four (4) years now…back pain is still gone!  Do I still have small flare ups…sure I do but, I know exactly what to do to manage a flare up.

I have been a Certified Foundation Training instructor for 4 years now.  FT has evolved in that time and keeps evolving.  I knew FT was special when I first tried it…even though I did not know why.  I do know why now…FT, takes it’s three (3) principles of decompression, hinging and anchoring and applies it to muscle chains and integrates with movement to build a strong, supple and powerful core (stability system).  FT…builds from the inside out.

INTRODUCING

CORE ELEMENTS…FOUNDATION TRAINING’S NEWEST RESOURCE

Core Elements – Your Newest Foundation Training Tool

Foundation Training Core Elements is the newest way to apply and reinforce what you learn at your Foundation Training sessions in an all new streaming platform. It contains over 5.5 hours of engaging content including lectures & theory, exercises, focus sessions and incredibly effective, progressive workouts that you can access on any streaming device (computer, tablet, phone).
The program contains the entire library of Foundation Training exercises – which is awesome to have, but can also be a bit overwhelming.  This library is awesome.  For those of you whom I have taught or who already know FT this library will serve as a reminder of subtle nuances that make FT work so well.  There are also workout videos that you can follow along with to help you keep the intensity up.

For those of you who purchase this program and are brand new to the exercises…follow along and give it a go.  You may still need some help.  This is where you will need a certified trainer to come in and help you with things… body positioning, movement patterns, adjustments and maybe just answering some questions.  FT, really helps a person learn about “their” body…what it can do and opens the possibilities of what it could do!  That’s what FT did for me…made my body better.

REASONS TO INVEST IN FOUNDATION TRAINING CORE ELEMENTS:

It reinforces all the helpful tips and cues you learn at your Foundation Training session (that you may have forgot!).
It gives you a way to practice along with an instructor when your schedule doesn’t allow you to meet with me.

Each facet of every exercise is taught in detail. You can rewatch again and again to fully absorb all of the nuances that make these exercises so effective.

The program is designed to give you the motivation to practice everyday. This accelerates your progress and gets you closer to your goals.

You can take it with you. So whether you’re at home or traveling, you can keep your Foundation Training practice going strong until we see each other again.

POWER OF THE POSTERIOR CHAIN

What is the posterior chain anyway?

The posterior chain is a group of muscles consisting predominantly of tendons and ligaments on the posterior of the body. Examples of these muscles include the biceps femoris, gluteus maximus, erector spinae muscle group, trapezius, and posterior deltoids.  In simpler words, you can say the back, hamstrings and calves.

This group of muscular structure should work together as a unit to extended and stabilize our spine, hips, knees and ankle as we move.

In this technology and computerized world we live in today where many people do not move enough the back of the body becomes weak and compromised.  Even if you do exercise more than the average person many of us do not move through enough range of motion or thru enough different planes of motion.

How do you know if your glutei is weak? How do you know if your hamstrings are short and tight?  Does your back hurt when you go take a run?

If you sit a lot…you most likely have a weak/tight posterior chain.  Short/tight muscles pull on the bones.  When bones get pulled or rotated out of position…muscles have to work out of position and inefficiently.  Thus, the cycle begins and continues until there is inflammation, friction, micro tears, spurs, imbalances, joint damage and pain.  This leads to having to stop activity, then you start taking medicine, then pain pills and then the cortisone shots.  You start to feel better and start moving again, but the symptoms return and the cycle continues.

We all have to start taking care of our body with our own musculature.  I know…you thought exercising is a way to take care of our bodies!  It is…we just have to exercise in a better more mechanically proper manner.  The human body is meant to heal itself…if you give it the proper tools.

Enter FOUNDATION TRAINING!  Foundation Training focuses on the back of the body with a series of exercise that integrate decompression breathing and anchoring thru movement.  I have to say I was skeptical when I first started, but four years later my back feels great!  I use FT daily as my stretching for any and all activities I do.  You will reap great benefits from learning the FT protocol and exercises.

Contact me and visit foundationtraining.com

Get up from that desk and breathe…decompress…lengthen…it only take a minute or two.  Now you can get back to work…you will feel refreshed and energized.

WHAT IS FOUNDATION TRAINING?

A group of exercises that focus on effective human hip hinging.  Sounds simple doesn’t it?  In some ways it is…yet, for so many people the ability to hinge the hip has been lost.  Hip hinging is a basic movement template we all are born with.  Watch any baby learning to go from crawling to walking and you are going to see lots of hip hinging.  Somewhere along the way many of us loose this ability to move from the hip.  When this happens we are using others parts of the body (usually the back and knees) to start movement and or support our body thru a movement.  This is how the viscous cycle of imbalances, injury and pain start.

The whole theory for FOUNDATION TRAINING is:  The spine must be more stable than flexible for the body to be at it’s best!  Dr. Eric Goodman, a young Chiropractor student set out and was determined to manage his own back pain as well as to help others.

There are three principals in Foundation Training: Decompression Breathing, Anchoring and Integration.  These three principals once understood then combined with muscular tensions, lengthening and movement create stronger more stable spines, improved movement patterns and overall body awareness.

Foundation Training is for everyone!  Dr Goodman and his excellent team have taught hundreds of practioners, therapists, trainers and lay people around the world how to use these principals to help themselves as well as their patients and clients. I can honestly say, I was skeptical at first…but my chronic pain is gone and has stayed gone ever since I learned FT 4 years ago.

The poses look simple but so much is going on in the body when you apply the principals!  FOUNDATION TRAINING WORKS!  Find a trainer near you at foundationtraining.com.  Once you learn FT you will have a life long tool to help with any pain issue you are having.  FT will not go out of style.

BACK PAIN

Statistic show that 80% of the the Western population will suffer from some type of back pain.  I definitely believe this is an accurate estimate.  Back pain can affect all types of people. From sedentary to fit athletes…lack of exercise, too much exercise, to much repetitive movements, white collar, blue collar…many people from all walks of life will have to deal with back pain issues.

BACK PAIN IS REAL

BACK PAIN in many cases is annoying.  In many other cases it can be debilitating!  Back can make people reach for to many over the counter meds or worse to many pain pills.  People will even break down and go to the doctor to find relief.  In many cases they are sent home with a prescription to relieve the pain.  When pain persists or becomes to painful cortisone injunctions are prescribed.  Pills and shots do not fix back pain…that is a fact!

Back pain is caused from injuries, faulty movement patterns, repetitive patterns, to much sitting, too much technology, sedentary lifestyles, too much weight gain….even gravity.  Couple some of these reasons together and the worse back pain becomes.

BACK PAIN IS PREVENTABLE, TREATABLE AND MANAGEABLE

I am a 59 year old former athlete.  My athletics are now rounds of golf, walking and bodyweight style exercise.  As a young college athlete back in the 70’s I suffered with back pain.  Thought it was normal because of all the sports I played.  As I aged into mÿ 40’s the back came more often, lasted longer and really affected me be able to exercise at all.

In 2013 my wonderful Chiropractor (Foxworth Chiropractic) turned me onto Foundation Training.  I knew immediately there was something special happening in my body.  It seemed so simple but I could not figure out why it worked.  It looked and felt like stretching…which I have always done…yet it made me feel so much better.  I started to research it and learn what I could and kept doing a little everyday.  I kept waiting for my back to go out… yet it never did.  The pain was gone…even though I knew it would be back…yet it hasn’t come back.  I have been practicing and teaching Foundation Training 4 years now…my back pain is GONE!  I know it sounds to good to be true…but, it really is true…GONE!

Because of Foundation Training…I have learn to take better care of my body.  Posture and body mechanics are better which manages the stress the muscles put on the joints.  I practice movement patterns now which help muscles work in proper sequencing…which improves flexibility, strength and mobility.  Trust me at nearly 60 years old mobility is vital to a very long life!  I practice decompression breathing daily to improve the deep core and spinal muscles…the key to a healthy back!

Because of Foundation Training…I now follow and practice other movement practioners and modalities.  Some of my favorites are GMB and Animal Flow.  I would have never tried any of their work because I could not have gotten my body into those positions.   Now I can👏

LEARN ABOUT YOUR BODY

Do yourself a favor….if you have back pain.  Find a FT instructor (foundationtraining.com).  Get assessed and take a few lessons.  It’s not expensive and what you learn will serve you for life!  FOUNDATION TRAINING is not a fad!  It is a very doable systematic…with a purpose approach to healing pain in the body…if you will practice a little every day.

CHOOSE HEALTH…NOT ILLNESS

Spring Cleaning: Time to Throw Out the Excuses
Other than New Year’s, there is probably no other time during the year that motivates us to make a fresh start like springtime does. When the warm breezes start blowing, we want to throw open the windows and let the rebirth all around us revitalize our homes and our spirits.

Because it seems natural to clean out the old during this time of year, it’s a great time to come face to face with our excuses for not getting fit and healthy. Excuses pile up just like the clutter that we accumulate in our houses, but it’s time to come clean.

What is your excuse for not choosing health?

I don’t have the time to exercise: This is likely one of the most common excuses. You are busy. You have to work all day (or all night), you have to get the kids to school, you have to cook dinner, go to the grocery store, mow the lawn, change the oil in the car, care for your aging parents—there is simply no time for exercise.

Really?

●●●

If you don’t make time for exercise, you will have to make time for illness.

●●●

Consider this. If you do not exercise, you will almost certainly begin experiencing the illness and disease that comes from an inactive lifestyle. When you begin experiencing symptoms, you will have to make an appointment with the doctor, drive to your appointment, wait to be seen, schedule additional tests at the hospital, and wait for your prescriptions to be filled at the pharmacy. And with chronic illness, this scenario will be played out month after month after month. And it takes a lot of time.

Will you find the time in your busy life to see to your medical issues?

Yes, of course you will. You will make sure that you adjust your schedule and your life to accommodate your illness. So why not adjust your schedule now to accommodate the prevention of illness through exercise? You do have the time; you just have to decide to use it.

The truth is that if you do not make the time for exercise, you will have to make time for illness. And exercise takes a lot less time out of your life than disease.

I don’t like to exercise: Again, a pretty common excuse. But it won’t let you off the hook. Lots of people do not like to exercise, but they make themselves do it anyway. Do you like feeling tired? Do you like being overweight? Do you like having to undergo medical tests? Without exercise, you will feel tired, be overweight and become sick, so it comes down to choosing your ‘dislike.’

I don’t have the energy to exercise: If you are unfit, you likely have low energy. And when you don’t have much energy, the last thing you can imagine is exercising. But until you become more active, you will not have the energy you so long for. As you begin exercising, you will start having more energy. You won’t start feeling better until you start moving.

It’s just not the right time for me to start working out. “I’ll start working out when…

• I get some decent exercise clothes

• Summer vacation starts

• The kids go back to school

• I get my house organized

• Work lets up

• I have more time

• Life calms down

• The kids get older

• The weather warms up a little

• The weather cools down a little

• Someday…just not today

It will never be the perfect time to start a fitness routine.

You just have to start.

Surrender your excuses

Decide to stop hiding behind your excuses. Make a clean sweep and toss those excuses out. Everybody has excuses for not exercising. The fit and healthy people around you choose to give up the excuses and just do it. That doesn’t mean it is easy for them. It just means that they love feeling energetic, strong, healthy, and empowered enough to push in and get it done.

You can be that way too.
